Q: How do I make a bid?
A: Send an email to saveitart@gmail.com. Include the title of the work, bid amount, and your contact information in the email.
You will get an email confirmation that your bid has been received, as well as an email if someone else bids higher. However unlike ebay, this is being processed by hand. Please allow some time for your confirmation email.
Q: What is this auction for?
A: This auction is a benefit fundraiser to help Blithe Riley pay dental bills accrued from a nasty bike accident on September 21st, 2009. Blithe is an artist and so are lots of her friends, so some people suggested an art auction as a way to help pay off the bills.
A million Thank You’s to everyone who donated work to make this possible.
The Story
On September 21, on her regular commute to work over the Manhattan bridge, Blithe flipped over the handlebars on her bike and landed on her face. The details of the event are blurry because she blacked out when hitting the pavement. Maybe the front wheel was loose, maybe something got caught in the back wheel… regardless no cars or people were involved. It was just an accident. The result of the fall includes damage to 6 front teeth. 5 of which need root canals, one extraction, crowns, bridges, posts, etc. The total comes to $15,000 and that’s with a $6,000 discount. Whew.

Insurance
Not for this. No dental coverage. While basic medical insurance covers an accident of this kind, its full of restrictions. It won’t cover anything to a tooth that has been touched before (ie. cavity) and it will not cover crowns, bridges or posts, which are the bulk of the costs.
